GO Food Song and Preschool Activity

Know Your GO Foods Activity 2

  • Teach the children the "GO FOOD SONG" by singing one line at a time and letting them repeat it.

          GO FOOD SONG

To the tune of "Twinkle Twinkle, Little Star"

We need food that makes us GO!

Greasy food just makes us slow

Fruit and bread and cereal too

Low fat milk and vegetable stew,

These are foods that make us GO!

          Make our healthy bodies grow!

  • Explain to the children that they will be learning more about different kinds of food that will help their bodies grow and let their bodies GO! Discuss that things that move (cars, trains, etc...) need fuel or energy (like gas at a gas station), bodies need food to get the energy they need to work. These kinds of foods are both healthy and they taste delicious.

Ask the children which foods can give their bodies that energy. (Hint: they can use the foods that are in the song) Fruits, vegetables, bread, cereal, rice, pasta, low fat milk, beans give our bodies energy that helps us GO and grow. These are GO! foods.

  • Explain to the children that there are some foods that are not so good for our bodies. Some food, even though it might taste good, doesn't help our bodies grow and stay strong. Tell them that they will be learning about foods with a lot of fat and sugar in them. These foods trick our bodies because they may taste good, but they don't help the body to GO and grow healthy. Theseare are SLOW foods.

Ask the children to name some of the foods that they think trick their bodies by tasting good but not helping their bodies GO and grow. Poiint out that some people call these "junk food."

  • Have the children sing the GO FOOD SONG again.
