Summary of our Health Education Programs

At Healthy Start, we believe that healthy habits are learned early. With more evidence showing that many of the chronic diseases that may come in adult life, including heart disease, cancer, stroke, diabetes and high blood pressure and more cases of childhood obesity, it’s more important than ever to teach your kids the joys of exercise and eating right.

And you can be sure you have the information you need and the methods that work with Healthy Start. All of our programs are developed with the nation’s leading specialists in obesity prevention, cardiovascular health, physical fitness, curriculum development and intervention headed by Dr. Christine Williams, MD, MPH, nutrition specialist and Director of the Children’s Cardiovascular Health Center at Columbia University’s Children’s Hospital.

Healthy Start

Healthy Start is the full 12 unit Health Education curriculum for preschoolers. Each unit features fun activities, songs, and games that teach preschoolers what it takes to be healthy, and why they would want to. We have uploaded a table of contents that goes through the whole curriculum and give example activities from each chapter.

Animal Trackers

With Animal Trackers, your children will learn to develop gross motor skills that will aid in their physical development. They’ll be able to practice these skills in a non-competitive and fun atmosphere using 9 colorful characters as guides. Through song, dance, stories, and play, your children will learn to love physical activity and be more comfortable in their bodies. But the learning isn’t just physical. There is plenty of material here that addresses your children’s emotional, social, and cognitive growth.

Healthy Hops

Diet and nutrition are just as important as exercise. In Healthy Hops, we help children differentiate between what we term GO Foods (low to moderate calorie/high nutrient foods) from Slow Foods (high calorie/low nutrient foods). With three recipes you can make with your children, it also includes a section on fitness that will not just get their hearts and lungs moving, but explain how they are.
