Spectacular Me Activity 4

"Antonio the Antelope and the Angry Day"

Antonio the Antelope sometimes was sad

There was something that made him feel very bad

He had an older sister named Maybelline

And sometimes she could be very mean

  Maybelline would tease poor Antonio

And pull his nose and step on his toe

She hid his toys and took his books

And when no one was watching, she gave dirty looks

  One day Antonio had enough

He was tired of his sister being rough

So he took a deep breath and he let it out

With one small word in one loud shout.

The word was "NO!" and he said it loud

And Antonio suddenly felt very proud.

Maybelline was shocked at Antonio's shout

She stopped her teasing and they worked it out.

Teach the children the following rhyme:

"I am special, I am proud

And I will say this very loud-

I've had enough, I'm telling you

I'm saying 'No!' to what you do."

Ask the children:

What did his sister Maybelline do to Antonio? (She was mean to him, she would tease him, pull his nose, step on his toes, hide his toys, take his books, give him dirty looks.)

How did Antonio feel when Maybelline did these things? (Mad, angry, sad, hurt)

What did he finally do one day to get Maybelline to stop being mean to him? (He said "NO!" and told her to stop. He told her that he was special and that his feelings were important.)

Did it work? Did she stop doing mean things? (Yes. She realized that Antonio was a special person with feelings that mattered.)

What could he have done if it didn't work?

What are some things that make you angry? (Have children give examples.

What are some things that make you unhappy? hurt? (Have children give examples.)

What can you do if these things happen to you? (say no, talk about how you feel)

Who can you tell if saying "no" does not work? (an adult that the child trusts)

What did Antonio and Maybelline do after Antonio said "no"?
