GO Food Collage Activity
On The GO-Food Track Activity 20
This is a sample activity from the Healthy Start, Health Education Program for Preschoolers
You will need: construction paper, cut out pictures of GO foods, clear contact paper, and glue.
Ask children to identify some of their favorite GO foods. Allow each child to select a variety of food pictures and glue these to the construction paper.
Cover the place mats with clear self-adhesive contact paper.
Review the difference between GO food and SLOW food.
What kinds of foods are SLOW food? (foods that are greasy, oily, have a lot of fat in them, and foods that are sugary.)
What are some SLOW foods that you can name? (cake, candy, cookies, soda, chips, french fries, lots of cheese, butter, whole milk)
What kinds of foods are GO foods? (foods that are not greasy or sugary and help you run, jump, play, and learn)
What are some GO foods for breakfast and snacks? (Have the children name as many as they can. Use the master pictures for hints.)
Serve one of the healthy snack recipes on the place mat. Bumps on a Log are a good choice. The teacher can prepare the celery, raisins, and peanut butter and children can "assemble" the bumps on a log themselves.
Use the place mats whenever Healthy Heart Train snacks are served in the classroom.
