Observing your Environment - Preschool Activity
Healthy Habitat Activity 2
Objective: To observe habitat components.
You will need: toilet paper rolls, tape, and crayons, markers, or paints, if desired.
Tell the children that we're going to observe things in our neighborhood (our habitat).
This is a sample activity from the Healthy Start, Health Education Program for Preschoolers
Make "binoculars", using two toilet paper rolls taped together. Decorate using crayons, markers, or paints.
Allow the children to observe the environment from a window or during a nature walk, using their binoculars. The children could just use their hands if you do not want to make the "binoculars".
Ask the children to list plants and animals that they see and chart them. This chart can be used for future lessons.
Ask the children if they can see any sources of food or water. Can they see places where animals may get shelter?
