Observing your Environment - Preschool Activity

Healthy Habitat Activity 2

Objective: To observe habitat components.

You will need: toilet paper rolls, tape, and crayons, markers, or paints, if desired.

Tell the children that we're going to observe things in our neighborhood (our habitat).

  • Make "binoculars", using two toilet paper rolls taped together. Decorate using crayons, markers, or paints.

  • Allow the children to observe the environment from a window or during a nature walk, using their binoculars. The children could just use their hands if you do not want to make the "binoculars".

  • Ask the children to list plants and animals that they see and chart them. This chart can be used for future lessons.

  • Ask the children if they can see any sources of food or water. Can they see places where animals may get shelter?
